If the soil is poor, add a liberal quantityof well-rotted manure. time TO plant September and October are the bestmonths for planting bulbs in the garden, though it maybedone in November and December. Set them from one to•dx inches apart, according to variety or size, and from oneto three inches deep. This is not necessary to save the bulbs, formost kinds are perfectly hardy in any situation withoutprotection, but it is most advisable to do it, for it preservest he vitality of the bulbs to a great extent, and when in bloomyou can notice that those which were protected will be twiceas good as those which were not. Itshardiness, ease of culture, and certainty to bloom, wouldalone insure popularity, but it has the additional merit ofbeing one of the most decorative and ornamental of plants. Its massive spikes of waxen flowers are of the most perfectshape and most delicious fragrance, while its colors sportinto a hundred shades, tints and blendings. Out of the longlist of Holland growers we have chosen the very cream of allvarieties, either for pot or garden culture. The bulbs here offered are not of second size or inferior qual-ity, but first-class in every respect, large a nd selected. ROMAN HYACINTHS. Not at all like the Dutch or Show Hyacinths, thoughthey do not suffer by comparison. The slender stems, arch-ing beneath their load of daintily poised bells, are the acmeof grace and elegance, while so many spikes are thrown upfrom each bulb that the whole pot appears a mass of bloom.Roman Hyacinths are extra good for cutting
