Asters. The acknowledged queen of autumn annuals. Indispen-sable (or the flower garden, flue as a snow plant for fairs andexhibitions, and charming pot plants. Yerv profuse bloom-ers, with exceedingly beautiful flowers of the most exquisitecolors and almost perfect form. There are several forms ofAsters, some being imbricated likethe Rose, some loose andglobular like a Peony, while others are partly incurved likethe Chrysanthemum. In regard to height they are classifi-ed as tall, half-dwarf and dwarfs. The tall varieties are finefor the center of large beds and for cutting as their flowersare borne on long stems; the dwarfs are particularly fine forborders or masses of one color, as they are so compact andbloom so profusely as to seem like so many bouquets set inthe ground: the semi-dwarfs are good for all purposes, andextra line for pot culture. It is a good plan to make two or more successive sow-ings, two weeks apart, to prolong the season of bloom; seedscan be sown in hot-beds or
