Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Childress smokehouse The Peters House at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, Tennessee, USA. Originally located in Powell Valley, Tennessee (a few miles north of the museum), this building originally belonged to the Childress family and was purchased from Woodrow Disney in the 1970s. When museum crews attempted to remove the building from Disney's estate, a mysterious mountaineer known only as "Hamhock" and his sons prevented them from doing so. The crew returned a few days later, and removed the building without incident. Locals suggested that Hamhock had been operating an illegal whiskey still in the smokehouse's loft, which was originally used as a granary. This structure is part of the museum's "Old Homestead" display. An old-time music trio is seen playing on the porch.
