The experienced elder should keep a closewatch on the little gardens and their owners, and, weekby week, should teach and show what is to be done.Weeding will be the first thing, and the little trugs willcome out and the blunt weeding-knives to save fingers,and so on throughout the year. It will have to be considered, in cases where thereare two or three children, whether it is better to have aseparate garden for each, or whether they shall have onegarden in common. The pleasure of individual pos-session is so great among children that, if they areoffered their own choice, they will, in their own un-thinking way, be most likely to say they would likeseparate gardens. But they should understand that inthis way it is very difficult to make anything pretty ofit, whereas in a garden all together it may be madeextremely pretty.
