English: U.S. Air Force Capt. Philip M. Hotchkiss, of Panama City, Fla., the senior medical officer with the Laghman Provincial Reconstruction team, examines a young boy who was brought to him on Forward Operating Base Mehtar Lam in eastern Afghanistan's Laghman province, March 29. At age six, the young boy is unable to walk and his growth is stunted. After an examination, Hotchkiss diagnosed the young boy with polio. The medics at FOB Mehtar Lam occasionally provides medical care to local villagers who do not have access to local doctors or have received sub-standard care. |
