Italiano: Altare dell'Annunciazione del 1884. Bellini era l’emblema della pittura veneziana chiusa in un dorato e prezioso isolamento tardo- gotico. Infatti, quello che subito colpisce nel polittico bresciano è l’ampio uso della foglia oro per le ricchissime vesti di Maria e dell’angelo, per la tappezzeria sulla parete di fondo, per le aureole e per i raggi che partono dalla colomba dello Spirito Santo.
Il tema raffigurato è quello dell’Annunciazione, che compare nel repertorio figurativo cristiano fin dal V secolo, ma sarà nel XIII secolo che si stabiliscono gli elementi fondamentali della scena: l’angelo, Maria e la colomba dello Spirito Santo. Bellini rappresenta la giovane inginocchiata, in segno di umiltà, che all’arrivo dell’angelo sospende la lettura di un libro ed incrocia le braccia sul petto. Da notare l’eleganza del leggio intarsiato ed il bianco candido delle pagine. L’Arcangelo Gabriele entra da una porta a sinistra, si inginocchia e pronuncia le parole Ave gratia plena (Salve, oh piena di grazia), che sono scritte nell’ordine in cui Maria le sente, quindi da destra a sinistra. È molto particolare anche la corona di Gabriele, che imita fiamme di fuoco, secondo l’idea medievale che gli angeli fossero fatti di fuoco. La trattazione sommaria dei piedi rimanda a metodi grotteschi, Bellini infatti soggiornò anche a Firenze, quindi non devono stupire elementi toscani nella sua pittura. Pure il drappo dorato che funge da fondale veniva usato nelle Annunciazioni e nelle Sacre Conversazioni toscane. Dopo l’annuncio, Maria è colpita dai raggi dorati dello Spirito Santo sotto forma di colomba, simbolo della grazia che Dio Padre le infonde. Egli si trova scolpito sulla cornice, circondato da testine di angeli. Il colore rosso che si intravede nella fodera interna del ricco broccato che riveste Maria indica anch’esso lo Spirito Santo che opera in lei, indica l’amore della Vergine per Dio ed il Sangue come fonte di vita. Le vesti dorate dei personaggi, le pose eleganti ma statiche e la fastosa cornice con archi a sesto acuto sono tipici del gusto gotico. Invece, segnali di apertura verso il primo Rinascimento si vedono nella dolcezza dei visi, costruiti con una certa ricerca volumetrica e con passaggi di chiaro scuro che danno consistenza ai volti; rinascimentale è anche l’ambientazione all’interno di una stanza dove il soffitto a cassettoni ed il pavimento di marmo sono disegnati in prospettiva con un preciso punto di fuga. Bellini verso la fine della sua attività conosce e frequenta Andrea Mantegna, che diverrà suo genero e lo porterà a superare in qualche dettaglio lo stile tardo- gotico. La predella fu dipinta da un allievo di Bellini, Lorenzo da Venezia, ispirandosi a disegni del maestro. I cinque scomparti mostrano la Natività, la Presentazione di Maria al tempio, la Visitazione, la Fondazione della basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore a Roma ed il Transito di Maria. |
