Title
Chief Many Tail Feathers "adopting" Gov. Ernest Lister into Blackfoot tribe, 1915
Description
Transcribed from photograph: "Indians. Washington, Eastern. Chief Many Tail Feathers adopting Gov. Lister into tribe. 1915." The "adoption" took place at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition during festivities celebrating Washington State where Governor Lister was one of the honored guests. According to a September 26, 1915 Seattle Post-Intelligencer article: "Governor Lister will enter into the fun-making spirit of the day when he will be initiated into the Blackfoot tribe of Great Northern Indians. The governor will go through the prescribed ordeal of Indian rites and emerge a legally adopted red skin with the title of "Chief Eagle Tail Feathers.""
