Summary
[edit]DescriptionChesterfield with three trains on the Goods lines alone geograph-2763947-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg |
English: Northwards from Chesterfield with three trains on the Goods lines alone. View northwards, towards Tapton Junction, Sheffield/Rotherham and Leeds etc., from just north of Chesterfield Midland Station: ex-Midland main lines. (See also SK3871 : Up coke train approaching Chesterfield Midland Station and other views at this location). This gives a flavour of the constant flow of freight and mineral traffic - and empties, that crept along the Goods lines here and as well was fitted between the heavy passenger traffic on the Fast lines. On the Up Fast an empty ore train, headed by Stanier 8F No. 48095 (built 1937, withdrawn 2/65) passes an iron ore train on the Down Goods with another 8F, No. 48461 (built 12/44 at Swindon and worked on GWR until 5/47, withdrawn 1/65). On the Up Goods ex-Midland 3F 0-6-0 No. 43254) approaches on a short PW train. |
