| Description |
English: Up class E freight approaching Chesterfield, 1955. View northwards from north of Chesterfield station towards Tapton Junction, on the ex-Midland main trunk line from London and the south-west to Sheffield, Rotherham, Leeds etc. The relatively short train is running on the Up Fast line, overtaking a string of slower trains on the Up Slow lines - operated on the Permissive Block rules. No. 48682 is a Stanier 8F 2-8-0, one of many built at Southern Railway Works in 1944; it survived until 9/65. |
