Saturday 11 July 2009. Yet more dumped rubbish in Chesnut Road London N17 opposite Rycroft Way. For a couple of years, I've tried - and always failed - to get Haringey Urban Environment Department to use its CCTV camera to record who tips garbage on the pavement next to this wall. You can see the camera in the photo on the left. At one point I was told the camera is operated by Haringey Parking Service. So I assumed it focused on cars parked on yellow lines. More recently I was told the camera is operated by Haringey's Community Safety Team. But whether it was protecting the good citizens of Haringey from heinous parking offences - or worse - I hoped it might also have recorded someone in the act of heaving bags of stinking crud to this spot. The camera pans automatically. So even if there's a 'blind circle' immediately below the camera mast, it should have recorded the comings and goings of the dumpers. Or captured the numberplates of vans or cars used to transport waste to Chesnut Road. As you'll see in the comments below this photo I posted an email from Haringey Urban Environment Department on 1 August 2008, which included an assurance that: ". . . the camera deployed at this site, although primarily used for parking purposes is now capable of picking up footage of people dumping rubbish on the pavement. There is an ongoing agreement that footage of dumpers would be forwarded to the Street Enforcement Team to investigate and action. There was a serious intent to take this action . . . " Here, in sequence are the photos recording my previous, so far, utterly fruitless efforts. ► 30 April 2007 ► 14 July 2007 ► 22 May 2008 ► 24 September 2008 |
