Description
Français : Cherbourg - Octeville est une commune française du département de la Manche et de la région Basse-Normandie. Elle résulte de la fusion des villes de Cherbourg et d'Octeville le 1er mars 2000. Préfecture maritime, et sous-préfecture de la Manche, ses 37 121 habitants (plus de 115 000 avec sa banlieue) en font la première ville du département devant la préfecture Saint-Lô et la deuxième de la région après Caen. Port militaire, halieutique, plaisancier et de passagers transmanche, handicapé par son isolement géographique pour être un grand port marchand, c'est un pôle de construction navale important, une ville ouvrière dans un arrière-pays rural.
