Description
Français : Détail d'une des deux cheminées de l'ancien teillage de lin Van Robaeys (de Roubaix) avec plaque fabricant, à Quesnoy s/ Deûle (59).

La famille Van Robaeys, originaire de la région d'Ypres (B), se réfugie de l'autre côté de la frontière lors de la Grande Guerre. A l'issue du conflit plusieurs de ses membres, issus du monde agricole, se lancent dans la transformation du lin avec des moyens artisanaux.

Le teillage consiste à séparer la fibre de la paille, par battage.

Le site quesnoysien, qui comptera jusqu'à une centaine d'ouvriers, est en activité de 1939 à 2017. Le groupe, toujours implanté à son siège historique de Killem, en Flandre maritime, rapatrie cette année la production dans une nouvelle unité à Fortel en Artois.

La friche est alors rasée dans le cadre du projet d'éco-quartier de l'Ange Gardien, aménagé à partir de 2020, mais les cheminées sauvées de justesse.
