| Description |
English: Site of Cheltenham Malvern Road station, 1986. View SW, towards Gloucester, South Wales, Bristol, Swindon etc.: ex-GWR main line from Birmingham via Stratford-on-Avon etc. It is hard to believe that here 15-20 years earlier there was a thriving railway station, goods yard and engine shed, and the branch from the principal Cheltenham station, St James' (terminus), joined just beyond the trees on the left. Both these stations were closed from 3/1/66, but some freight traffic still ran through here until 25/3/68 - over the line much of which has been restored by the heritage Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway, as far as Cheltenham Racecourse about 1½ miles to the north. |
