| Description |
English: Cheesden Bridge, on the A680 near Rochdale Beneath this small bridge flows Cheesden Brook, and for many years the line of this brook has formed a boundary. It was, and still is, the boundary between the parishes of Ramsbottom and Heywood, but has had other importance also, first as the boundary between the Urban District of Ramsbottom and the Municipal Brough of Heywood - but then in 1974 came major re-organisation: Ramsbottom became part of the large Borough of Rossendale, while Heywood became part of the Borough of Rochdale. This gave the brook County boundary status as well, as Rossendale remained part of Lancashire, while Rochdale became part of he 'keg' county of Greater Manchester. This latter County was later more or less abolished, while Rochdale still regards itself as being in Lancashire. |
