Description
English: This picture is of the Stone columns also in hindi are known as 'Khamba', situated at Chaubis Khamba Mata Temple, Ujjain. There are 12+12 ie. total 24 columns in this two-storeyed structure that derive the name of this structure. These are intricately carved in basalt stone and design is signature to the temples of Ujjain, related to Parmara period. This structure used to be a gateway with a huge door opening in the centre. At present, it is a temple where the Goddesses - Mahamaya and Mahalaya are worshipped. The significance of this temple is deeply rooted in the traditional rituals of the locals.
