Summary
[edit]DescriptionChatillon-13 rue de cullion-5.JPG |
English: Châtillon-Coligny, Loiret, Centre region, France. Rue de Cullion, at n° 13.
Old bridge over a waterway in the town center. Châtillon's hydrology has been worked on in such a way that the Loing river, which of old used to feed the main part of the inner city waterways until the building of the canal de Briare in the 17th century, since then shares its waters with the canal at a point upstream of the town, and leaves it only downstream of it (at the La Ronce spillway). An arm of the canal comes to the town, but most of its water goes to feed the old moat which runs along the Boulevard de la République. Inner town's waterways are mostly fed by the Milleron, a tributary of the Loing. This explains why the water level in this picture is so low, in the middle of winter at a time when all natural rivers of this area are currently flooding their surroundings.
