Summary
[edit]DescriptionChateau Chenonceau (3724045757).jpg |
A castle near the small village of Chenonceaux in the Indre-et-Loire department of France. It was built on the site of an old mill on the River Cher. It was built between the 15th and 16th centurys. Mary Queen of Scots may have lived here when she was married to Francis II of France (when he was King of France from 1559-60). The spelling of the Chateau was changed from Chenonceaux to Chenonceau during the French Revolution to please the local villagers, also to distance it from going from a symbol of Royalty to a Republic. |
