DescriptionChasan Shas.JPG |
A set of the Talmud, of the kind sometimes known as a חתן ש"ס (chasan shas) amongst Ashkenazim. Literally, this means "bridegroom shas", since it's of the expensive kind often given as a wedding present. (Shas stands for shisha sedarim, a synonym for Talmud literally meaning "six orders". That, in turn, is a reference to the six groups that the volumes of the Talmud are traditionally organized in.) Unfortunately, I'm not a good photographer, nor a good Photoshopper, but this is better than nothing. (Comment: This picture is missing the volume for Tractate Pesachim.) |
