Notes | Swastika and tiki good luck charms - part of collection relating to Tpr A C Nicol 11-1942 INZEF. 11-1942 Pte Arthur Charles Nicol Trooper Arthur Charles Nicol left New Zealand with the 8th Reinforcements, Wellington Mounted Rifles on the 13 November 1915 aboard HMNZT 36 (ss Tofua). En route he assisted (as printer) in the publication a 'The Albatross' vol. 1 No 1, "the first paper issued on board a troopship at sea". Other earlier papers were printed while the vessels were "in port". Pte Nicol may have later served with the 17th (Ruahine) Regiment (as part of the Wellington Infantry Regiment) as an embroidered cloth made for his mother features the badge of that regiment. Post war Arthur Nicol worked for the North Auckland Times. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
