Description
English: Charlton Memorial Fountain, Saltwell Park. A late 19th Century drinking fountain to the north-west of Saltwell Towers mansion. It is inscribed: "GEORGE CHARLTON ESQ JP Mayor of Gateshead 1874 and 1875 in recognition of his labours in the cause of social reform" http://www.twsitelines.info/Siteline.nsf/SMR/D3157CA50BA3448780257638004EB435?opendocument The photograph shows the north side of Saltwell Towers 1581133 which features a 3-storey entrance tower with crenellated parapet and a high polygonal stair-turret capped by a circular pyramidal roof and decorative weather-vane that wouldn't be out of place in Disneyland http://www.twsitelines.info/Siteline.nsf/SMR/9184E09219490C6580257638004EB434?opendocument
