| Description |
English: Charlotte Square, New Town On James Craig's original plan for the New Town in 1766 the Square is named St George's Square after St George's Church (now West Register House). It was renamed in honour of Queen Charlotte in 1786, a further expression of Unionist loyalty to the Hanoverian dynasty in the wake of the Jacobite rebellions earlier in the century. |
