Summary

[edit]
Description
English: In 1921, James Garland of Boston died, and left his son Charles over a million dollars. Charles refused to accept it, because to do so would be unChristlike; instead, he lived on an impoverished farmstead in Virginia with his wife (inset) until January 1922, when she convinced him that she and their newborn child needed the money.

The Alexandria Gazette did not see fit to provide her name.
