Tübingen, on the Neckar, is a town of about 16,000 inhabitants and is the seat of a University which was founded here in 1447 by Count Eberhard. Melanchthon, the famous professor lectured here in 1512-1518 and the University still enjoys a high theological and medical reputation. The interesting old Castle is situated on a hill which commands a fine view of the town.
