Summary
[edit]DescriptionCharles Brodhead House, Center Street, Bethlehem, PA (52421489171).jpg | Originally built circa 1850 for Charles Brodhead, whom platted the core of what is now South Bethlehem in 1854, this Queen Anne-style house was later expanded circa 1875, and renovated in the Queen Anne style with elements that suggest some influence from A. W. Leh. The house features a rusticated stone exterior with red brick arches, reminiscent of Bethlehem’s 18th Century Moravian settlement buildings, with a slate roof featuring a complex roofline with hipped and gabled portions, multiple hipped and gabled dormers with decorative windows and decorative trim, and copper flashing, red brick chimneys, a red sandstone water table at the base of the first floor and red sandstone window sills, replacement windows, porches with hipped roofs, exposed rafter ends, and decorative columns and brackets, with the front porch featuring decorative bargeboard and a paneled gable over the front steps, a two-story bay window on the south facade with a hipped roof, a front gable with terra cotta tiles at the top of the gable end and a hipped canopy over the second floor windows, a front entry door with a stained glass transom, and a two-story bay window on the front facade. The house is a contributing structure in the Central Bethlehem Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, and expanded to include additional buildings in 1988. |
