Mare se formant habituellement en hiver (Steert van den Blikker, à Coxyde)
Quand la photographie a été prise, la nappe aquifère avait déjà baissé sensiblement.
L’eau s’élève très peu par capillarité entre les grains de sable ; aussi voit-on que, tout près de la limite supérieure qu’a atteint l’eau de la mare, le sable est resté sec et mobile et qu’il a été emporté par le vent, ce qui a mis à nu la stratification de la dune (à droite).
Sur l’eau, près du bord, flottent des rameaux d’Agrostis alba.

En été, la mare se vide tout à fait (voir planche 36).
