Summary
[edit]DescriptionChapel Of Our Saviour (32694114162).jpg |
A small church located in rural Brunswick. It has an interesting history that is appropriate for February which in the US is Black History Month. The rear section was added to the original. I don't know when the utility shed was built. It was renovated some years ago by local philanthropists Marion and Harry Crooker. The Chapel of Our Saviour is located on Old Bath Road in Brunswick. In June of 1887, the Brunswick Telegraph reported: The little chapel on the Bath road, near the old Father Houston place, is rapidly approaching completion, and of course it will be a convenience for religious worship to people residing in the neighborhood.. The "Father Houston" the article referred to was actually Francis Heuston (1764-1858), a prominent African American farmer who was well respected in the community. The Chapel was used for worship for gernerations and is still in use today. [Maine Memory Network website] |
