Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The variable lizard (Calotes versicolor) is a common Asian reptile. The presence of these little "colored dragons" in the streets of Pondicherry illustrates the gradual shift of its natural habitat towards artificial landscapes. This new ecosystem is not less dangerous than the wild world as evidenced by the amputation of its tail. At the top right of the image, a drainage canal reveals an urban architecture typical of monsoon dominated climates. If this channel can appear as a simple flood control infrastructure, a creative mind might think of it as a doorway. A gate separating the surface world from a mysterious underground kingdom in which our reptile is about to shelter
