Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Chancel, St Andrew's Church, Ashburton The Reredos is in English oak, dedicated in 1928 and is the work of Herbert Read. It is in triptych form, with a base of twelve angels bearing emblems of the Passion. Each carved figure was donated individually by members of the church in memory of deceased loved ones. The third angel was paid for by "the children of the Parish" and the fourth by "Mothers of the Parish. In thankful memory of little ones in Paradise and in gratitude for those yet with them."

The Centre Panel contains three sections - the Annunciation, the Nativity and, in the centre, the Crucifixion.

The East Window was reglazed in 1924. At the bottom is show the Last Supper, at the moment after Judas had gone out and the disciples were disturbed and puzzled at the turn of events. Above is the risen and ascended Lord, dressed in the traditional vestments of a Priest, surrounded by adoring Angels and Archangels. On the top are four angels bearing incense and the cross and crown of thorns; the Greek letters alpha and omega and the vessels used for Holy Communion.
