Châtillon-sur-Indre (Indre). Le donjon et l'église.
Le donjon sur motte* domine Châtillon. On peut nommer donjon l'ensemble de la grosse tour avec sa chemise*. La forme cylindrique de la "grosse tour" est caractéristique du XIIe siècle. Dans la seconde moitié du XIIe siècle, plusieurs grands féodaux du comté de Blois firent construire ou reconstruire d'imposantes tours, comme à Marchenoir, les Montils, Châteaurenault, Romorantin, Fréteval, Coulommiers-la-Tours, Gallardon, Mondoubleau, Châteaudun. L'absence d'organes de défense, comme les archères, laisse penser que la fonction défensive pourrait être secondaire. La grosse tour pourrait alors être considérée comme une marque d'autorité et de prestige*.
This tower is part of a 12th century feudal mound. The enclosure surrounding the tower is still visible.
La collégiale romane Saint-Outrille aurait été fondée au Xe ou au XIe siècle pour accueillir les reliques du saint. L'édifice actuel fut reconstruit dans le dernier quart du XIe siècle (chœur, abside) et se poursuit au XIIe (transept, absidioles). L'ensemble est roman, sauf la chapelle latérale, de style gothique comme la croisée de transept, qui fut construite au XVe siècle. L'église Saint-Outrille devint Notre-Dame avant la Révolution. En 1791, elle devint église paroissiale et fut requisitionnée pour un curé constitutionnel. |
