The great tower or keep was built in the late twelfth century by Thibaud V. This is the only part of the original castle of the Counts of Blois. The tower was covered by a conical roof in 1450 by Dunois. This is one of the best preserved of France dungeon. The basement of the tower served as a prison during the Revolution. Immediately to the right of the tower, the Sainte-Chapelle. This is Jean d'Orleans said"the Dunois" * (1402 - 1468), who built the chapel in order to protect a piece of the Cross of Christ.
He was the illegitimate son of Mariette d'Enghien, wife of Aubert Flamenc and Louis I of Orléans. John was raised in the family of his father, with his stepbrother, Charles d'Orléans. Charles d'Orléans is the author of an important lyric work. Dunois will take the idea to bring Joan of Arc in Orleans, to boost the morale of the people. Dunois deposit favorably at the trial of Joan. |
