Châlons-en-Champagne (Marne) Bastion d'Aumale. C'est l'une des dernières traces de la ceinture fortifiée qui entourait la ville. Au XVIe siècle, pour répondre aux progrès de l'artillerie, les fortifications sont renforcées par deux bastions, le bastion Mauvillain et le bastion d'Aumale au décor renauissance. Du bastion d'Aumale, édifié entre 1563 et 1573, sous le commandement du duc Claude d'Aumale lieutenant général du roi en Champagne et en Brie, il ne reste qu'une trace dans le square Saint-Jean. En 1876, le bastion d'Aumale est aux mains du génie pour les casernes de la cité Tirlet. |
