Description
English: Ceremonial robe, described as a "robe of state" or "state robe" in the exhibition caption. Made of black silk damask with gold plate lace, gold robe ornaments, and embroidery. The current design dates to the reign of Queen Victoria.

This style of robe is worn on special occasions by the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Chancellors of Oxford and Cambridge universities, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, and various other high officials.
