Summary

Description
Italiano: Comparto Unione area ex-Falck

English: The Thermal Power Station - former Falck Unione area

The Thermal Power Station, designed by engineer A. Mella in 1930, originally functioned as an electricity power station for the distribution of power to the Falck factories. In the ‘60s it was given over to offices. The station produced electricity and was fuelled by gas or oil. The Falck and other industries in Sesto San Giovanni demanded an enormous quantity of electrical power. Particular care was taken with the architectural design of the building, so as to attribute it a somewhat prestigious role within the production complex it is part of. The building remains a distinctive element of its urban setting.

The Power Station is nowadays placed in a brownfield area. It is part of the project of Sesto San Giovanni per l'UNESCO, as one of the buildings of the application for inscription on the world heritage list for humanity in the evolving cultural landscape category.
