Description
English: Railway Works. The Central Station.

In a summary of the state of the works at the new Central Station the engineer says that the station buildings proper are nearing completion; and the upper floor should be ready for occupation at the end of the month and the platform floor rooms at the end of February. The only work to be done is the fixing up of the internal fittings, such as the counters, racks, &c., and the paintings of the internal and external woodwork. ... A clock has been ordered for the tower, and should arrive from England shortly. ... It is understood also that the platforms will be continued under the Edward-street bridge, and that the bridge will have to be altered in construction. The entrance to the tunnel towards Brunswick-street is to be through three arches, which will necessitate a rearrangement of the Creek-street bridge. Ultimately, it is believed, three lines of rails will be laid on the Observatory side of the main station.
