Description

SUBJECT Buildings - NH - Keene Town squares

DESCRIPTION Photograph of the Central Square in Keene New Hampshire. "This photograph, made near the middle of the winter of 1906-07, is remarkable for the absence of snow. It contains a number of former landmarks, such as the band stand, built in 1904 and removed in 1913, and the "wigwam" covering the fountain, erected to the memory of Allan Parkhurst Ingersoll. The fountain was damaged on the night of July 3rd, 1898, by a cannon cracker. It was repaired but in a few years was removed and its present whereabouts are unknown."
