Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Herman Hollerith developed mechanical tabulating machines for the 1890 Census. These machines tabulated data recorded on punch cards prepared by clerks using pantographs. The pantograph’s stylus punched holes in cards that could be read and recorded by the tabulators. Computers and magnetic tape replaced punch cards and mechanical tabulators in the 1950s.
