Description
English:
Cemetery at Mission San Gabriel, ca.1908
Photograph of the cemetery at Mission San Gabriel, ca.1908. Dozens of wooden picket fences enclose graves marked with crosses. Some graves are not fenced in but simply marked with a cross. Several trees grow further back. Part of the mission itself is visible beyond a copse of shorter trees at left. Mountains are visible in the distance. Some of the markers have legible writing on them. One is dated 1896. Several thousand Indians were buried here.
