Cells infected with SARS-CoV-2

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The reds and greens in this image represent cells infected with the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. The virus's "nucleocapsid" — the envelope that surrounds its genetic material — is depicted in green, while the spike protein it uses to infect cells is colored blue, and red denotes the presence of heparan sulfate, a molecule found in all animal tissues. The image was produced as part of research that aims to reveal how the virus' nucleocapsid binds to the surface of the cells it infects and how the immune system responds to the infection.
