at, ihonlders, white; wings, blue; tail, longand HO ABOUT CROWS. In England there are many superstitionsconcerning this bird. To see one, or two, orthree together, is a sign of something, goodor bad, while the ways in which the birds flyare of much consequence. Even so lately asin 1860, a request was made officially to theauthorities at Dresden, in Germany, for a sup-ply of Magpies. They were to be perfect, evento claws and feathers, and must be shot be-tween the 24th of December and the 18th ofJanuary; they were to be made into a powdersupposed to be a valuable remedy for the dis-ease called epilepsy. The signs are relics of the ancient art ofdivination, by which the people of Pagan Romewere humbugged. As for the medicine, beingonly dried and pounded meat, it is probablyas effective as many other innocent prescrip-tions now much in fashion, whose only influ-ence is on the imagination of the patient.Doubtless many persons recover after takingthe medicine, and sometimes in spite of it.
