Summary

[edit]
Description
English: View northwest along the Aln Valley Railway as it crosses Cawledge Viaduct. The viaduct crosses Cawledge Burn (a tributary of the River Aln) with 7 spans of 13.7 m and reaches a maximum height of 21 m. It Opened with the railway in 1850 and was designed by Robert Stephenson. The original railway closed in 1968 but has been progressively reopened from the new-built Alnwick Lionheart station since 2012, and had reached a temporary terminus at Greenrigg Halt (a short distance behind the photographer) by the time of visiting. A public footpath (left of the fence) parallels the reopened railway for much of its length.
