Description
Cattle are grazing at Simpsons Gap which is located in the Northern Territory of Australia. Located 18 kilometres from Alice Springs, Simpsons Gap is one of the gaps in the ranges west and east of Alice Springs. The area is an important spiritual site to the Arrarnta Aboriginal people, where several dreaming trails and stories cross. Known as Rungutjirpa to the Arrernte Aboriginal people, Simpsons Gap was the mythological home of a group of giant goanna ancestors. Several dreaming trails and stories cross at this important spiritual site.This image is part of a series of photographs taken by Captain Frank Hurley in 1935.
