Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Cattle Run. This long stone channel runs downhill through Armstrong Park to the Upper Ouseburn Valley below. Assumed by many to be for drainage it is in fact a cattle run, built by Lord Armstrong in the late 1800s. By this time the park was a popular leisure attraction, so the run was built to allow the farmer who grazed his cattle on the top field to drive the cows down to the Ouseburn, under the footpaths, so as not to disturb park visitors.
