Italiano: "L’opera fu a lungo presentata come il ritratto di Maria di Savoia, figlia naturale di Emanuele Filiberto (Mallé 1963 e 1970). L’identificazione con l’infanta di Spagna Caterina Micaela, andata in sposa a Carlo Emanuele I nel 1585, fu avanzata in occasione dell’allestimento in Galleria Sabauda di un nucleo di opere del Museo Civico di Torino allora in fase di chiusura (Dipinti e sculture 1988, n. 30). I lineamenti della duchessa presentano un’indubbia somiglianza con i ritratti di qualche anno successivi al matrimonio: in particolare con il disegno di Johan Wiericx oggi in collezione Lugt a Parigi, con due ritratti realizzati alla corte torinese dal fiammingo Giovanni Caracca, quello in abito chiaro in collezione privata e quello di Casa Cavassa a Saluzzo, o ancora con i perduti disegni di Caracca noti attraverso le fototipie di Pietro Carlevaris, e con l’acquaforte di Giacomo Fornaseri. Punti di tangenza non mancano anche con l’immagine della duchessa offerta da Pantoja de la Cruz oggi a Villa Habsburg a Roma (M. KUSCHE 2007, pp. 52-53)." [1]
