Original caption: " CARNARVONSHIRE. [picture] : Liverpool. 1274 tons. Ashore on Irish coast near Cape Clear. [sic!] " The Catharine that wrecked in Pensacola is a different ship, built in Canada in 1870, and the remains of which are located in Gulf Islands National Seashore in Florida.Notes: This is NOT the full-rigged ship Catharine, ex Carnarvonshire, ex Eliza at ground before the American coast in 7 August 1894[1] The original description of the photo is part of the barque Carnarvonshire, built in 1876 and stranded at the Irish coast in 1896.[2] |
