Description
English: On 6 February 2023, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck near the city of Gaziantep in South-eastern Türkiye. This was followed by several strong aftershocks, including one of magnitude 7.5. The earthquakes caused more than 17,000 casualties and over 37,000 people were injured. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) Rapid Mapping module was activated (EMSR648) to assess the damage caused by the earthquakes in 20 areas of interest. As of 10 February at 13:00 UTC, the CEMS Rapid Mapping team delivered 53 maps, showing that 4,042 buildings/building blocks and 72 km of roads were possibly damaged or destroyed. This image is a data visualisation, based on CEMS data, which depicts the damages for the area of Kahramanmaras. A detailed report on the status of the activation has been published, and all the maps and associated data are available on the Copernicus EMS website.
