56 JOHNSON & MUSSER SEED COMPANY BEAUTIFUL HYACINTHS Cur^TURE IN GivASSES—For this purpose the largest and heaviest bulbs should be used; therefore we strongly recommend our select named hyacinths, and the single sorts are the best. Fill the glass with water, so that only the base of the bulb is immersed in it, and remove to a dark, cool place till the roots have grown almost to the bottom of the glass. The water should be changed every week or two to keep it pure; in doing this draw the roots entirely out of the glass and rinse with clean water. When brought out to the light, shade the glass from the full rays of the sun, the effect of which is to heat the water to a fatal degree; remove from the window at night if very cold. Culture in Open Ground —Any good garden soil will suit hyacinths, and the depth at which they are planted should be determined by yie character of the soil. If clay or very heavy, bulbs should not be covered more than 3 inches; if light, from 4 to 6 inches. SELtCT N\MED tlYACINTHS. Prices—All first size picked bulbs each 10c., per dozen ;1.
