Rolfe,of Sandwich, and is figured in ThePublications of the AntiquarianEtching Club, vol. v. pi. 32. 8060 44. Statuette of the BlessedVirgin and Child, in ivory. Eng-lish. 13th century. The BlessedVirgin is sitting, and gives suck tothe Infant, resting on her left knee:her breast is exposed through anopening in her robe : she is vestedin the usual way, and the veil is wellshown over her robe, falling fromover the head half-way down theback. (Maskell.) The Virgin isseated on a stool, on the sides ofwhich are faint indications of Gothicornamentation, there are also tracesof red colour on the statuette. Thewhole character of this piece isexquisitely simple and beautiful,Maskell, p. 174, No. 25. H. 6^in. 8064 45. Centre panel of a trip-tych, in ivory. English. 13thcentury. (Westwood.)
