The course includes studies in thephysical, intellectual and moral development of children; factorsconditioning mental development, as heredity and environment;mental fatigue and its relation to mental work; comparativestudies of the minds of lower animals and savages with those ofnormal and defective children; the special senses, perceptionmemory, imagination, thought powers, emotions and motorability. Attention is also given to the causes and extent of de-fective vision and hearing and methods of testing the same, to-gether with other minor psychical abnormalities more or less com-mon among school children. The course includes lectures andconferences by the instructor and observations and readings bythe students. The texts used include the standard books by G.Stanley Hall, William Preyer, James Sully, E. A. Kirkpatrick,Earl Barnes, Stuart H. Rowe, W. B. Drummond, Gabriel Com-payre. J. Mark Baldwin and others.

State Normal School at Montclair 33 Educational Principles Applied to TeachingFive Hours Per Week in Senior B Semester The aim of the course is (a) to make students familiar withthe aims of education and with the educational principles under-lying the teaching process; (b) to make them able to apply theseprinciples to school-room procedure and class management, to theselection and organization of subject-matter, and to the choiceand application of methods to be used in teaching.
