THE AMERICAN Wonder Lemon. (copyrighted.)
Text Appearing After Image:
;*HERB is a firm in our city who is I offering our American Wonder Lemon under the name of Ponderosa. Anyone receiving their catalogue of spe- cial bargains, etc., and ^\-ill tvum to page 28 of said catalogne. will find a descrip- tion and illustration of a so-caUed Pon- derosa Lemon. This same cut was made for us last Spring to illustrate our "Wonder Lemon, and was reduced one-fourth from the original dra-\ving of a natural size fruit made by the Stecher Lithograph CJo.'s artist for us. This same cut we used on our 3rd cover page last Fall to illustrate our "Wonder Lemon, and to which we refer our patrons. This cut is our property, and was loaned to them ^vithout our knowledge, and used by them to illustrate our own American "Wonder Lemon, of which they have a few plants, having secured two plants, from which they have gro^vn a very limited quantity, and arc offering them in small size only at 50 cents each, under the fictitious name of Pon- derosa. Our customers will notice the description given of the so-called Ponderosa is almost identical vritb. the descrip- tion of our "Wonder Lemon. "We hero assert, and are ready to back our assertion vrith. our reputation, and, if necessary, "With our money, that there is no such lemon as the Ponderosa, the same being our own American Wonder introduced by us last Spring; and we further assert that large plants, or fruit- ing size, cannot be bought of any firm in the L^. S. other than ours, and we further agree to pay $5.00 for every genuine two-year-old plant of American "Wonder Lemon, alias Ponderosa, that can be proven to have been purchased or can be purchased from any other establishment than ours. Furthermore, we re- iterate and brand as false and misleading the statement of said firm, or any other firm, that the so-called Ponderosa lemon is larger, better or different than our American Wonder Lemon; and we here promise and agree to pay the sum of one hun- dred dollara to any person or persons who can disprove this ass«'rtion. "VS'e do not grow the lemon of Sicily, the fmit of which is small, but we have got the eenuine American "Wonder Lemon, aliat Ponderosa, by the tnousands, in one, two and three-year-old plants; and we ask our customers. Why pav 50 cents for a small plant Grro\%-n from a cutting dunng the last few weeks when we ^vill send you a handsome two-year-old fruit-bearing plant of the genuine Wonder Lemon, alias Ponderosa, for the same price? "We also refer our friends to a few of the manv testimonials received from delighted customers who bought their American Wonder Leiiion from us last Spring. "We, therefore, advise our friends who desire to procure our sterUng novelty to send to head- quarters for It. We have it by the thousands, and ^vill not foist the inferior lemon of Sicily upon you, which we candidly beUeve will be done if you buy it elsewhere. If any of the above were not cold facts we dare not pubhsh them. Truth is stronger than fiction, and six years of success in our business teaches us that it pays to be honest. As to our reliabiUty to do as we promise, we refer our customers to the First National Bank of ovir city, the leading bank of Springfield.
