Plant height is 18-20 inches. It is quite determinate in its flowering, pod set is concentrated on the upper portion of the plant. Pods are 5^2 to 6 inches long, straight, round, slightly creaseback, dark green, smooth, entirely stringless and without fiber. Resistant to com- mon bean mosaic. 140 Broccoli, Zenith .^rilitSfon award-winning variety developed at Horti- cultural Crops Research Station at Castle Hayne, N. C, Zenith is uniform in heading and plant characteristic and appears to be resistant to hollow stem. Plants are 18 to 24 inches tall, and are vigorous and semi-erect in growth habit. Leaves are medium green in color and ruffled along the margins. Heads are compact, deep rounded on top. Suitable for fresh market use and for freezing. It is classed as very good in quality. The princi- pal yield is from the central (main) but after these heads have been removed the plants produce numerous side shoots until the end of the season. 75 days. This Fi Hybrid is much more resistant against heat comparing to ordinary Savoy Cabbage, and also fairly disease resistant. Has larger head, and a very uniform and heavy yielder. Yields generally are more than 50% higher than ordinary Savoy. Show deep green color especially under cool cli- mate, but under warm conditions the color tends to be lighter. Stalks 7 to 8 feet dark green husk and flag. Polaris is rated as having resistance to Downy Mildew superior to any variety cur- rently available. It is highly resistant to Race 1 and moderately resistant to Race 2 Anthracnose. 59 days. Also similar in net, firmness of rind and flesh. Vine somewhat more vigorous and considerably more resist- ant to downy and powdery mildew than Edisto. The same level of resistance to Alternaria. Quality good to excellent. 92 days. Pkt. 25c; oz. $3.50, postpaid. 60c; l^ lb. $1.65; lb. 140 Broccoli, Zenith 559 Blackeye Pea, Princess Anne This variety was selected from a cross be- tween a bunch Purple Hull and California No. 5 Blackeye. Plants are compact with no basal runners. Flowering stalks are erect and fairly long, bunching a high proportion of the pods at the top of the plant. It is 7-9 days earlier maturing than Large Blackeye. The harvest period for three years averaged 12 days for Princess Anne compared to 32 days for Large Blackeye 55-58 days. 14 lb. 45c; lb. 80c; 2 lbs. $1.30; 3 to 9 lbs. @ 60c lb.; 10 to 24 lbs. @ 51c lb., postpaid.
